Jason Wins Prestigious Grant and is Hitting the Road!

Jason is proud to be a recipient of one of this year's coveted Southern Arts Jazz Roads Grants. With the help of this grant, Jason will be bringing his Quintet on the road for a tour of his home state of Alabama this September 15-20.

Guitarist Bert Cotten (his bandmate from Funk Monkey and also a native Alabamian), keyboardist Mike Lemmler (George Porter, Jr. & the Runnin' Partners), bassist Ed Wise (featured on Jason's first album), and The Iguanas' drummer Doug Garrison (also featured on Start It!) will be joining Jason as he brings his music throughout the state.

Starting in his hometown of Montgomery, Jason's Quintet will hit Troy, his alma mater University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Muscle Shoals region, and then finish off with 2 nights in Birmingham. Check here for more details when the tour gets closer.

Jason Mingledorff is a Grammy winning musician and has been one of New Orleans’ most versatile and in-demand saxophonists for almost 30 years. While national audiences have enjoyed hearing Jason play with some of their favorite acts (including St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Clint Black, The New Mastersounds, and The O’Jays), it is Jason’s almost 30 years of work with some of New Orleans’ most beloved artists (including Dr. John, Harry Connick, Jr., Papa Grows Funk, New Orleans Nightcrawlers, Galactic, Irma Thomas, and Better Than Ezra) that has endeared him to fans throughout the world.

His career has had some unforgettable moments – like appearing on The Simpsons, recording Maceo Parker’s last album, jamming with Philip Glass at Carnegie Hall, and playing flute with Elton John at his Oscar Party – but this year holds the promise of many more as Jason steps out for the first time as a bandleader with the release of his long-overdue debut album, Start It!.
